OBERG PRAISE N PRAY – April 21,
2008
The difficult land situation in Somorogouan is turning
into something that is bringing glory to God!! The anger focused onto the
church, originally, has turned into respect as people are taking notice of the
honesty and integrity of our believers in this difficult situation. Since the
evangelism a week and a half ago, and also as a result of hearing the testimony
of the church in the land situation, many people have come by to visit church
members and ask questions. They want to know more about Christ and about what
is making our believers act differently. PRAISE God and keep
PRAYing!
We are PRAISING God that one of the young men in the
upset family about the property situation accepted Christ at the evangelism this
past week! To think that he was pulling up property markers in anger and
stopping the building just a few weeks ago and is now worshipping in our church
on Sundays! Please PRAY that he will grow in his faith and that the rest of his
family would come to Christ. Wouldn’t that be a great “full circle” ending to
this property saga!
We are praising God for a great evangelism trip this
past week. About 30 adults and 30 kids made decisions for Christ in the two
villages close to Jengenebougou. Kevin ended up coming home on Saturday night
with an IPOD that went out (with all of his evangelism films on them), and he
had forgotten to bring his backup system. The pastor went ahead and preached
and told people they would show the film on Sunday night. Ironically, the next
morning, the IPOD worked perfectly . . . . Hmmmm . . . . Because Kevin wasn’t
there to give the pastor and evangelism team a ride back to their village
Saturday night, they stayed overnight in the village where they were doing
evangelism and had a church service the next morning. The new believers joined
the existing two believers in that village for church, and it was a perfect
opportunity for further follow-up. Kevin headed back out on Sunday to finish
the trip and came home very encouraged because of all that God is doing in this
area of the Kenedougou. Please PRAY for these new believers near Jengenebougou,
and for the student pastor who will be working there this summer (and then
permanently when he finishes his last year of school next
year.)
PRAY for Toby as he heads to Jengenebougou and another
village close by for 4 nights of evangelism this week. There are four mosques
in Jengenebougou. All of the believers in the church there are transplants from
other villages. Please PRAY specifically that people who are native to this
village would come to Christ, as well as those who are
“strangers”.
Please PRAY for our Jacob. He came down with malaria
over the weekend. Fortunately it’s a milder case, probably because of the
prophylaxis he’s been taking. He’s about half way through his treatment and
we’re seeing improvement. Please PRAY for a complete recovery soon. Thank you
for praying for protection for our family.
