What to expect when you come!

You will receive a very warm welcome and you’ll probably be surprised by who you meet. Island Church is made up of people from all ages so you’ll always be able to find someone of your age to talk to. Before and after our service we have coffee available for those who would like that.

Praise and Worship – we’re a congregation who loves to sing and tell God how awesome He is. We have a very talented and gifted team of musicians and singers who lead us and help us to experience God’s presence. Their goal is to help us connect and encounter the Lord. Our music style is contemporary.

Message – Pastor Grant shares God’s Word in a practical and inspiring way relating it to living as a Christian today. It won’t be boring or irrelevant. An outline is provided each week – use it to follow along. A CD of the message is available immediately after the service.

Prayer – the elders and care group leaders of our Church are available at the end of the service to meet with you and to pray for your needs.

What are the Services Like?

At Island Church, our services are designed to help you experience God’s presence. We want you to be both encouraged and challenged by God’s presence through worship, looking at God’s Word, and loving each other. Don’t worry—we won’t put you on the spot or single you out. However, we will try to love you and encourage you first to know and then to follow Jesus. There will be a time of extended worship and singing; you’ll hear great contemporary music from a band whose members sing and play from their hearts. We receive an offering every Sunday.

How Long Will The Service Last?

Our Sunday service typically last for one and a half hours!

What Should I Wear?

Casual clothes are the norm at Island Church. People wear what is comfortable, usually blue jeans or khakis…even shorts during the summer.  Women wear a wide variety, from jeans to casual dresses.  Our Easter and Christmas services are probably the one time of the year that people choose to dress more formally.

What About My Kids - Do They Come Into Service With Me Or Is There Something Going On For Them?

Our children and youth ministries provide a great experience for infants through grade 10. Nursery aged children may be signed in the nursery 10 minutes prior to the service where our trained staff will care for them during the service. Families worship together during the first part of the service before children and youth are dismissed for Sunday School where age appropriate activities and lessons are provided.  Preschool through grade 6 children meet together as a group and also in grade level break out sessions while grade 7-10 youth meet separately.

What kind of worship style do you use in the weekend services?

Our worship style is contemporary.  When you attend, you’ll see guitars, keyboards, bass and percussion instruments.  We believe that God is not as concerned about the style of worship—whether hymns or
choruses—as He is about the hearts of those who worship Him.  We use contemporary music however, because that is the music of our day and we are trying to reach a contemporary society.

Is This A Christian Church Or Something Else?

Island Church is a mainstream, evangelical church.  Though non-traditional in style, Island Church is
deeply committed to the eternal truths of the Christian faith.  Our purpose is to be a Christ-centered community whose lives are transformed as we walk in grace and in obedience to God’s eternal Word!

When Are The Services And How Do I Get There?

We have one service on Sunday mornings at 9.30am held at the Woodward Middle School hall on Sportsman Club Road NE, Bainbridge Island, (Just off the 305 highway).

What Is This Weekend Message About?

Is Island Church Affiliated With A Denomination?

Yes.  We are affiliated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance.  In fact, Island Church is a part of two groups:

The Pacific Northwest District of the Christian and Missionary Alliance.  This includes over one hundred churches in Washington and Oregon.

The Christian and Missionary Alliance General Council.  In America, this consists of approximately 2,000 church and 300,000 adherents.  In addition, the C&MA worldwide includes over 15,000 churches and
two million adherents.

In its articles of incorporation, the objectives of the C&MA are as follows:

"The Christian and Missionary Alliance is committed to world missions, stressing the fullness of Christ in personal experience, building the Church, and preaching the gospel to the ends of the earth.”

Why not just be an independent church?

We are an independent church!  Every C&MA church is completely independent.  There is no denominational control or hierarchy, as there is in many other denominations.  Each church is self-governed and determines its own affairs.

Every C&MA church chooses its own pastor.
Every C&MA church owns it own buildings and assets.
Every C&MA church determines its own programs.

What are the advantages of affiliating with the C&MA?

It allows us to identify with other Christians around the world who are known for their commitment to the Bible.  Unlike some groups, the C&MA has no man-made "creed."  The Bible is our only authority.

It allows our church to participate in a great missionary organization.  Through the C&MA missions program, we help support missionaries in many countries around the world.

It allows for accountability, and therefore safety for our church.  Pastors are held accountable for their doctrinal and ethical positions.
